STC’s Communication Arts Festival focuses on ‘Connecting to Others in New Ways’

McAllen, TX (March 29, 2016) – The South Texas College (STC) Communication Department is set to host its annual Communication Arts Festival on Friday, April 1, 2016, at the Cooper Center, located at 3201 W. Pecan Bldv. in McAllen, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Included in the event will be a panel showcasing the success of local social media entrepreneurs that complement this year’s theme of ‘Connecting to Others in New Ways.’

The Blogger and YouTube Panel will kick-off the Communication Arts Festival. Panelists include Nine To Five Guy blog creator Robert Lopez, thergvfoodster.com creator Sirheem Fuentes and Katherine Rodriguez, creator of a YouTube channel focused on beauty.

Robert Lopez has created social media platforms where he enjoys writing about topics close to his profession, focusing on the wonderful things happening in and around McAllen while promoting a healthy work-life balance. Through her food blogging, Sirheem Fuentes hopes to reach and change the way the Rio Grande Valley sees food. She showcases restaurants and establishments that are created and owned by local community members. Katherine Rodriguez is a local freelance makeup artist who has also established her YouTube channel for the past two years. This year she has also partnered up with Univision’s multi-channel network.

Following the Blogger and YouTube Panel will be an opportunity for attendees to learn about careers from BRNDHub, a local advertising agency in McAllen. Student information booths will also be available from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will conclude with a speech competition from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. where STC students will demonstrate networking and presentational skills that are essential in any profession.

Now in its eighth year, STC’s Communication Arts Festival is a hands-on event designed to encourage, recognize, and celebrate student works through speech competitions, career panels, drama and networking.
