RGVision Spreads Holiday Cheer through Foster Angels of South Texas

Harlingen, TX —  With the holidays upon us and after the difficult year we’ve all had, there is no limit to the amount of holiday cheer that our Valley needs. RGVision wanted to help bring smiles to those in need this year, so our organization took the opportunity to do so through collaborating with the RGV Partnership and the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce to benefit the nonprofit organization Foster Angels of South Texas.

In order to continue practicing social distancing as COVID-19 cases are still on the rise, we decided that the best solution to still spread some Christmas cheer and while also meeting this year’s challenges was through a toy drive for the children of Foster Angels.

According to Lucy Ann Wolthoff, the Community Outreach Director of Foster Angels of South Texas, “The highest amount of kids that are placed in foster care are in Cameron and Hidalgo county, so it is really important that we try to get the community and businesses involved to help these kids. They feel special when they get gifts because any gift is meaningful and special to them.”

As the connection between the foster home and social workers, Foster Angels provided RGVision with Christmas wish lists from the foster kids under their care so that we could purchase and distribute gifts to the children. “Just like their title says they’ve been angels to our kids,” said Jennifer Soto, a CPS Adoption Specialist, “Foster Angels has donated so much for our children to give them actual gifts that they wanted. Things off of their wishlist so our children have really been excited to know that somebody is actually listening to their wishlist.”

The toy drive took place at the Harlingen Chamber of Commerce so that foster families could drive by and accept their foster child’s gifts without compromising anyone’s safety. Chamber President Javier de Leon explained his reaction to Foster Angels’ request for assistance, “You know when Lucy reached out to me and asked me if we would participate, I said we’re in.  What would you like us to do? How can we help you? Anything you need, we are here for you.”

RGVision CEO Gabriel Puente described his RGVision’s involvement, “We have been able to do this in a very safe and controlled environment, and so there’s still ways to go about giving back to the community in a safe environment. We are just so happy we’ve been able to do that this year.” RGVision is grateful to have been able to organize this toy drive with the help of the above mentioned entities and are proud to be a part of such a great cause this holiday season. It serves as a reminder that no matter how difficult the times are, the Rio Grande Valley community is always willing to come together and help its citizens grow stronger.
