Two Hands, Countless Smiles – Dr. Brenda Landeros & Valley Family Dentistry (Harlingen, TX)

By Krystal Krenek

Dr. Brenda Landeros has taken her strong drive and passion for the healthcare industry and turned it into successful dental practices in both the Dallas area and the Rio Grande Valley.  She owns Valley Family Dentistry of Harlingen and finds her success daily in her love of both family and fulfilling an important role in Valley dental care.

Landeros was born in McAllen, raised in Alamo, and is a 1997 graduate of Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School.  She believes that her parents, both from Mexico, are owed a debt of gratitude for raising her to feel she had everything, despite her modest background with her four siblings, and giving her deep roots in education.  She felt a strong penchant for the arts and healthcare from an early age, making her career path in dentistry an instinctive fit.  She graduated from St. Mary’s University of San Antonio in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.  She earned her dental doctorate from Baylor College of Dentistry of Dallas in 2006.

“Dentistry combines art and science, with a chance to directly impact people’s health.  Every day is entirely different, and therefore offers a new set of challenges and rewards,” Landeros contends.

Following dental school, Landeros worked as a dental associate in Dallas.  Within two years, she successfully opened three dental offices.  But something was missing.  Wanting to spend more fulfilling time with her family, Landeros purchased Valley Family Dentistry in 2007.  She brought in two partners, allowing her to continue to fulfill her Dallas obligations.  She would commute between Harlingen and Dallas, working one week at a time in each location.  She continued this exhaustive pace for two and a half years before permanently residing in the Valley in 2009.  In 2010, she procured her partners’ shares of the practice and became sole owner.  Landeros practices general dentistry with a diverse clientele of all ages. Since setting up shop here, Landeros has nothing but positive things to say about the welcoming Valley environment.

“What I found out about the health care profession in the Rio Grande Valley is that there is a strong sense of community among our healthcare providers.  I have felt very welcomed since starting here in 2007 and rather feel we all work together to accomplish one goal: the wellness of the patient,” professes Landeros.

Dr. Landeros would like to see more and more community residents served with appropriate dental care.  As the Rio Grande Valley’s population continues to rise, Landeros sees the expanding need for more health care providers.  For now, she intends to do more than her share, bringing out the healthiest, most beautiful, beaming smiles she possibly can.

When asked in what ways she sees herself as successful at her young age, her answer was poignant and reflective of the ways she embraces life.

“To me, success is to be enriched with love and true happiness.  I tell myself, ‘love what you do, and you will be successful in life.’  I try everyday to fulfill myself with God, my family, and good friends.  It’s wonderful to create a smile with two hands.  I am blessed to be able to live doing something I love every day,” Landeros beams.
